What discount options are being utilized?
Patient Assistance Programs from pharmaceutical companies, various local groups, and mail order discount pharmacies are the programs being used.

What happens if my medication is not offered under these programs?
If this should happen, our pharmacist will notify your doctor who, in many cases, will prescribe an alternate drug that will qualify, or we will search for the best prices locally or by mailorder.

Do I need the cooperation of my doctor?
Yes, your doctor must sign the completed paperwork and be willing to accept medications for you to participate in patient assistance programs offered by pharmacutical companies.

How do I pay for this service?
PHD accepts credit cards, cash, and personal checks.

How does the program work?
You will meet with PHD pharmacist to discuss your prescription therapy and she will evaluate your best financial options. If you bring all your financial information on your initial visit-usually you will only meet in person once. But she may contact you by phone for additional information if needed.

What if I am homebound?
Our pharmacist will call you by phone to get a preliminary summary of your prescription needs but it may be necessary to meet with a caregiver as warranted.

How will I get my medications?
It depends on the pharmaceutical company and whether you are accepted into their program - some our shipped directly to your doctor's office for you to pick up or some come directly to your home address. You can utilize a local pharmacy or choose from several mail order pharmacies, if you are not accepted into a patient assistance program.

How long should I expect from my date of application to when I receive my medications from my doctor/home?
PHD will act quickly to be sure you have your medication in about 10-12 weeks.

What are the usual financial acceptance guidelines for patient assistance programs?
For most programs the annual income is $18,000 for individual or $24,000 for household.

What if you can't help me?
PHD will provide you with a comparison cost analysis of your prescriptions and if we cannot save you more than the membership fee we will refund your annual membership fee.

What financial information do you need?
Some pharmaceutical companies require tax forms and other supporting financial documentation.

Do I need an original prescription?
Some companies request original prescriptions.

Is there a limit to the number of medications I can have under the program?
No, as long as the medications are prescribed for you by your physician.

Once I am accepted into these programs, is there a limit on how long?
No, most of the programs are indefinite as long as you continue to meet the requirements.

How will I know when to renew my medications?
Our pharmacist will explain each company's requirements for refills and future application processes. Most programs offer a 3-month supply of medication. If you want assistance with refills, there is a separate annual charge for this service.
